 Protecting Wood

Because of its warm, natural look, strength and budget-friendly price tag, wood is the most commonly used building and decorating material for a variety of home applications, including flooring, cabinets, furniture and decks.

Wooden surfaces are often stained or painted, but these finishes only serve a decorative purpose. To ensure that your wooden items last, it is crucial to apply a topcoat or sealer product to them. Coating your wood has a variety of benefits that not only increase its life span but your enjoyment of it as well, so it is a step that you should not skip.

Smooth Finish

Even wooden objects that are carefully sanded can have uneven or rough areas across their surface. Applying a topcoat or sealer product to your wood provides a smooth, even finish that gives it a finished look. Most topcoats and sealers dry to a hard, shiny finish that is durable and long lasting, so your wood will maintain its attractive appearance for years. In particular, wooden items such as furniture and flooring benefit from the smooth, shiny finish that a coating product provides.

Preserve Color

Preserve Color

Many wooden items are stained or painted to provide a more decorative appearance. Coating the wood after applying paint or stain helps preserve the color that you’ve chosen by forming a protective seal over the wood’s surface. Some stains and paints also have a tendency to bleed when applied, which can cause a blotchy finish for your wooden surface. Coating the wood with a topcoat or sealer helps prevent bleeding, so the stain or paint has a smooth, consistent color across the entire surface.

Prevent Moisture Damage

Prevent Moisture Damage

Wood is a porous material so it readily absorbs water and other liquids. When moisture is absorbed, the wood may start to decay, making it prone to breakage and discoloration. Preventing moisture damage is especially important in wooden items used outdoors because they are subject to rain and other moist weather conditions. Unlike paint and stain, which are simply absorbed by the wood, a coating product like topcoat or sealer actually fills in the wood’s pores so moisture that sits on its surface cannot penetrate down into the wood. Some topcoat products used for decks and other outdoor applications contain a water repellent, which causes rain and other moisture to bead up when it hits the wood.

Easier Cleaning

Coating wood flooring or furniture can make cleaning the surface much easier. Because the coating provides a hard, durable finish that moisture cannot penetrate, the wood is less likely to become stained when spills occur. In most cases, the liquids will simply sit on the surface of the wood where they can be easily wiped away. As a result, coated wood floors simply need to be swept and mopped to stay clean, while coated wood furniture usually requires only light dusting

Antique Crackle Finish is seasonally produce to some clients that require antique, cracked finishing in nitrocellulose. The technology behind this product is through the understanding of surface tensions of two coatings when it comes into contact. The same specie of wood sometimes will have different hue and color. This is attributed to the age, site of harvest, amount of resinous sap, etc, of the tree. Most likely this will give color variations on a piece of furniture once they are combined or mixed together. To avoid this variation, Deh Fu produces Wood Bleach as a solution. It comes into two types – water and solvent base. Imperfections like holes and dents on wood surface can be natural or made by wood-boring insects or even by handling. To cover such holes, Deh Fu manufactures Wood Lacquer Putty for the furniture industry. To imitate the color and for exterior protection, Deh Fu , produces Teak Oil for outdoor furniture.   Stains may also fall in the category of paint. They are produce at considerable amount for colorant at about 10% of our total production. Producing involves simple mixing of semi-products, which we ourselves produce. These semi-products for the stains are proprietary in formulation. They are prepared in concentrated stocks. Incorporated are material complex that have a very high tinting strength but transparent in color. Deh Fu has several product lines in stain using transparent color which is dissolved in various kinds of solvents and polymers. The solvents and polymers in the mixed solution make the difference between product lines. Understanding more of the behavior of the polymers (resins) used makes the distinction.   Toner Basic color, transparent or translucent. Any color is available on request. Nitrocellulose Based Lacquers (NC)

Posted by on 8-08-13 in Our Products | 0 comments

The most saleable in the line is the NC Lacquers. The NC lacquer occupies about 60% of Deh Fu monthly production. It is a very fast dry lacquer suitable to most furniture production lines where speed is concern. Of course, as the name implies NC is basically made with nitrocellulose (NC) resin, a polymer based on natural cotton. Our NC lacquers are available in both clear and pigmented systems. With a sizeable purchasing quantity of resins, we are able to dictate the qualitative and quantitative properties of these resins. We have directed our resin suppliers to revise the polymers used in manufacturing the resin intended only for our use. This kind of practice was a gift of thought to study and develop our own resins. Our NC formulations are one of the most competitive in the wood lacquer industry. At present, the price and the quality requirement of the resin is fully stable and controlled.   Nitrocellulose Top Coat General purpose premium grade clear top coat. Phthalate free.
